BLUE DUCK LAUNCHES E-SCOOTERS IN WINSTON-SALEM
Company expands its micromobility operations to North Carolina

SAN ANTONIO AND WINSTON-SALEM, OCTOBER 23, 2020 — Blue Duck, a San Antonio-based micromobility company providing e-scooters and e-bikes to communities across Texas and the Southeastern U.S., has been awarded a permit to operate a fleet of shared electric scooters in the city of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

“We have been working closely with Blue Duck for several months in preparation for this launch,” said Matthew Burczyk, AICp, Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator for Winston-Salem. “We are looking forward to seeing our residents and visitors riding their scooters around town,” he added.

“This is an important launch for us as we expand into the State of North Carolina,” said Megan McNamara, Blue Duck’s Senior Director of Partnerships. “We look forward to offering the residents, students, and visitors of Winston-Salem an alternative transportation option. We have enjoyed working with the City so far and are excited for this new partnership.”

Blue Duck is hiring a local operations team and will operate out of a local warehouse. The team will remove scooters from the streets each night for maintenance and charging, and will place them back in the field each morning.

Jeff Mangold, Blue Duck’s Co-Founder and Senior Director of Fleet Management, said, “In response to the COVID pandemic, Blue Duck has implemented enhanced cleaning protocols that comply with CDC guidelines to protect the health and safety of our riders.”

Initially operating in areas of downtown, Blue Duck’s scooters will be available to rent from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. Riders can download the Blue Duck app from Apple’s App Store or Google Play and use their mobile phones to locate and unlock scooters. Each Blue Duck scooter is equipped with GPS technology which allows for geo-fencing to prevent them from being operated or parked in prohibited zones.
