BLUE DUCK WINS EXCLUSIVE CONTRACT
TO OPERATE IN WACO, TEXAS
One-Year Pilot Program Brings Scooters to Downtown and East Waco
SAN ANTONIO AND WACO, 6 MAY 2020 — Blue Duck, a San Antonio-based electric scooter company operating in Texas and the Southeastern U.S., has been awarded an exclusive contract to operate a fleet of electric scooters in Waco, Texas, under a one-year pilot program, with an option of a one-year extension.
Initially operating in downtown Waco and East Waco, the e-scooters will be available to rent from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Riders can download the Blue Duck app to their mobile phones to locate and unlock scooters, paying a one dollar unlock fee and a per-minute rate until they end the ride via the app. Each scooter is equipped with GPS technology, allowing for geofencing to prevent them from being parked in prohibited areas. Blue Duck is also committed to providing equitable access and will offer special pricing for eligible low-to-moderate-income residents.

Blue Duck will hire a local operations and maintenance team and will operate its fleet of vehicles out of a local warehouse. mechanics conduct daily safety inspections on each of its scooters, ensuring they are maintained to a high standard in order to provide safe, reliable scooter rides for the community.
Waco Deputy City Manager Bradley Ford said, “In an effort to bring the fun of micromobility scooters to the downtown area, the City of Waco has worked closely with community partners to design a program and select a vendor that will provide a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Blue Duck has responded to the City’s goals for shared mobility including ensuring appropriate parking regulations, maintenance standards and an equitable pricing strategy. Pending an agreement between the City and Blue Duck on safety protocols related to COVID-19 we look forward to scooters being available for use in Waco in the future.”
