Blue Duck Wins Pilot Contract in Edinburg, Texas
Blue Duck first to deploy in the Lower Rio Grande Valley
SAN ANTONIO AND EDINBURG, TEXAS, October 29, 2019 – Under an agreement with the city of Edinburg, Blue Duck will become the first electric scooter company to offer scooters for rent in the Lower Rio Grande Valley.
Blue Duck will operate under an exclusive six-month pilot program in partnership with the city. The company will share ridership data with city officials, informing their city planning and efforts to develop regulations governing micromobility in their public rights-of-way.
The only local company in the last-mile electric mobility space headquartered in South Texas, Blue Duck provides a more affordable and more eco-friendly transportation option than automobiles and rideshare.
“The Blue Duck team came to the table prepared to operate as good-faith partners by working closely with everyone from city staff to the police department to ensure e-scooters are integrated into our community in a safe, smart, and sustainable way,” said Mayor Richard Molina. “They will also be creating jobs and supporting local businesses in our community in the process,” he added.
“Edinburg is leading the way on micromobility in the Rio Grande Valley and we are proud to be a part of it,” said Blue Duck CEO Michael Keane. “Our partnership with the city will generate invaluable data for city planners as they address mobility and urban transportation issues. Residents and visitors to the city will benefit from our affordable, easy-to-use scooters for short trips and last-mile transportation,” he added.
Blue Duck will collaborate with the city on a series of public meetings to gather input from Edinburg residents and businesses. The first of these is a Community Forum which takes place on October 30th at 6 p.m. at the Sports & Wellness Center, 315 E Palm Drive, Edinburg.
